Media Revolts Against Palin Protection

September 23, 2008

Ambinder reports on a standoff between Palin’s aides and the media covering her. Reporters are threatening to stop coverage of her activities if they aren’t granted more access. While it’s not clear yet how this will play out, it should be noted that a simple boycott of day-to-day Palin coverage would more or less amount to a victory for the McCain camp. They’d love to have photo-ops of her, but shielding her from questions is far more important. Unless media outlets start running regular stories complaining about the lack of access, this is a trade-off the Republicans should be happy to live with.

In another sign of the mounting hostility between the press and the GOP ticket, the AP is getting pretty snarky in its coverage of Troopergate:

Less than a week after balking at the Legislature’s investigation into her alleged abuse of power, Gov. Sarah Palin on Monday indicated she will cooperate with a separate probe run by people she can fire.

Zing!
